Testimonials

"I first started using drugs young about 13 years old... If I can get sober, anyone can"

My
Story

I never considered myself an addict. I drank socially like many others. But everything changed when I hurt my back. After that injury, I had over ten surgeries—and that’s when pain medication entered my life.

At first, it was just to manage the physical pain. But as time went on, I began to rely on the medication. When the pills stopped working, I turned to alcohol to fill the gap. I was trying to numb the pain, physically and emotionally.

About three years ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I almost died—twice. That’s when things really spiraled. I drank more. I took more pain medication. I was lost in the fog of it all.

I finally went to my first inpatient recovery center. It was nice—honestly, it felt more like a country club than a treatment facility. I stayed clean for nine months after that. But then I relapsed.

The drinking returned, the pills followed, and so did the lies—especially to my family. Eventually, I found myself back in rehab. But this time was different. This time, I saw what addiction looked like for so many others.

Most of the people I met weren’t there by choice. They were given the option: rehab or jail. Many had nothing but the clothes on their backs. And after 30 days, they were sent to outpatient rehab with no support, no job, no transportation, no stability. They were already in debt before they had a real chance to focus on staying sober. Many didn’t make it.

That experience opened my eyes.

I realized that recovery doesn’t end when inpatient treatment does—it’s just beginning. And too many people are being set up to fail. That’s why I started One Day At A Time Recovery Solutions.

Our mission is to help people transition successfully from inpatient to outpatient recovery. We aim to provide the basic support—like transportation, housing assistance, and job connections—so individuals can focus on staying sober and rebuilding their lives.

Because everyone deserves a real chance at recovery. One day at a time.

Donations

Donating to One Day At A Time is not just generous—it’s transformative. This stage of recovery is one of the most critical and fragile, where the risk of relapse is highest due to gaps in support and access to basic necessities. Your contribution helps bridge that gap, offering people a real chance at lasting sobriety and a fresh start. It means someone leaving treatment won’t have to choose between laundry detergent or a meal. It means they have the tools and support to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose. Every dollar you give directly helps break the cycle of addiction, reduce homelessness and incarceration, and strengthen our communities. If you want to make a meaningful, lasting impact—this is where it starts.
